Ed Moscovitch, Co-Founder and Executive Director

“Bay State Reading Institute is a Massachusetts nonprofit that works with schools, with teachers and with principals to give them all the help they need to become high performance schools.”

Ed Moscovitch is the co-founder and executive director of the Bay State Reading Institute. He is also the president of Cape Ann Economics. He is a consultant to the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education, and was the lead evaluator of the Alabama Reading Initiative. Ed is a contributor to the op-ed pages of the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe. Ed was the Executive Director of the MA Municipal Association, the Vice President of the Charles River Associates, the Vice President of Data Resources, Inc., and was the MA Chief Budget Officer from 1972 – 1975.

 
Margaret is responsible for corporate and individual development and foundation support. Margaret has worked with our partner districts on generating local support, writes and submits foundation and corporate proposals and assists with marketing BSRI’s services to districts. Margaret has more than 25 years of experience in development and marketing, working for major Boston non-profits in education and health, as well as experience in public relations. She has her M.B.A with a focus in marketing from Northeastern University.

Kelly Ally received her M.Ed from Notre Dame College. She was a classroom teacher in the Lowell, MA Public Schools and an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College, co-authoring their “Step-Up” program, assisting paraprofessionals in obtaining teacher certification. She has provided consulting to schools in MA, NH, and NY, and developed and conducted training workshops for the Department of Education in both the Reading First and Bay State Readers initiatives, as well as for the Reading Trainer’s Network.

Literacy Consultant and Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Janelle is responsible for managing BSRI’s online community, as well as developing and implementing the social media strategy. This includes advertising and marketing as well as building brand awareness for BSRI. Previously, Janelle functioned as a school based reading coach and literacy facilitator in a BSRI school, providing support to teachers and coaches. Janelle holds an Educational Master’s in Language and Literacy from Harvard University and a Master’s of Education in Administration from Boston College.

Tom Giddens has been the chief executive or principal development officer of institutions serving higher education and the arts communities.  As a development officer, he has had direct and personal responsibility for cultivating and soliciting major and planned gifts. As a fundraising consultant he has conducted numerous internal audits and feasibility studies and has provided ongoing campaign counsel to national clients conducting campaigns ranging in size from $10 million to $445 million as well as designing and developing the installation or enhancement of annual fund, major gifts and planned giving programs. Prior to entering the fundraising management and consulting fields, he taught, published and served in various academic administrative positions at institutions of higher education located in the East, Midwest and South.  He was graduated with an A.B. degree from Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin and was awarded his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Since its inception in September of 2005, Elizabeth “Liz” Ruccio has been privileged in her role as Business Manager for Bay State Reading Institute.  Before moving to the Bay State in 2004, Liz lead a successful radio business in Kodiak, Alaska and understands that growing and maintaining excellence in a business is similar in any enterprise, whether writing award-winning ad copy or building a visionary non-profit from the ground up.  Creativity.  Integrity.  Exceptional customer relations.  Liz is proud to express these core values in her work with BSRI.

Britt Ruhe is responsible for BSRI’s operational management, financial management, and strategic planning. Previous to working with BSRI, Britt was the founder and director of a community based mental health and wellness center, and the director of an educational foundation in Costa Rica. She has her M.B.A from the University of Massachusetts.
